How to become a Dentist

If you find yourself enjoying people, science, and making a lot of money then you should look at dentistry as a career path. Dentists usually have their own practice which means they get to set their own hours and they can make a very good living for themselves. The following article is a list of skills and steps required to become a dentist.

1.) High School

The first step in obtaining any sort of skill is high school. If you truly want to become at a younger age you need to focus and do well in high school so that you can get into a good four year college/university. You should focus on science classes such as biology and physiology. If you have already finish high school then you should look at step two.

2.)Four Year College/University

The second step is going to a good four year school and acquiring your bachelor degree. If you want to become a dentist you need to commit yourself to making exceptional grades so you can get into an exceptional dental school. Before you choose which school you are planning to attend you should validate they have all the necessary prerequisites, most schools should have a pre-dental program. Upon graduating with your bachelors you will need to take the Dental Admissions Test.

3) Dental Admissions Test (DAT)

The DAT is a very important exam if you want to become a good dentist. It is highly recommended you take a prep DAT course; this can significantly help you for the exam. First you will have to apply to take the exam; there is a $205 fee to take the exam. After your application is approved you can schedule and then take the exam. With good preparation you receive a good score on the test. Your exam scores will be sent off to your choice of dental schools.

4) Dental School

First you will have to apply to the dental school. Depending on your DAT score and your

GPA you graduated with from your four year school will depend on which dental school you get into. Once you are accepted into dental school you are on the home stretch. You have to complete required courses and take a few more dental certification exams but upon completion you will be a dentist.

Being a dentist is a lot of hard work, a long time, and a lot of money to complete the necessary steps. However it is definitely worth it. Depending upon you status and desire you may choose to specialize, but that would require more schooling and more exams to be completed.
