How to Recover From Over Eating During the Holidays

Did you eat too much during the holidays? Don't feel so bad, most of us eat too much every holiday season. Our cloths fit a little too snugly and we start feeling the guilt and disappointment of letting ourselves get out of control.

Our forefathers did not face the same problem because their diet for most of the year consisted mainly of fruits, vegetables, bread and occasionally a little meat. By living most of the year with such a diet they could afford to indulge in turkey, dressing with gravy, cakes and pies during the holidays.

Today we enjoy an abundance of foods of every kind. Overeating and eating the wrong foods is a year-round problem today. When the holiday season arrives we tend to compound the problem.

Here are a few tips to help you get control of your weight:

Get rid of those tempting treats such as candy, cakes, pies and cookies.

Buy healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These high fiber foods aide your digestive system. Eat lean proteins such as fish, chicken and turkey. These foods help cleanse your system of the after effects of ever eating.

Drink plenty of fluids. Six glasses of water per day will helps the digestive system and helps relieve the bloating caused by too much salt, sugar and fat.

Sugar cravings are normal after consuming all those holiday treats. Satisfy those cravings with fruits like apples, oranges and berries.

You need to get your body moving. Take a brisk 30 minute walk daily. If you continued your normal exercise program during the holidays and still gained weight, add another 10 to 15 minutes to your routine.

Be realistic, think long-term and aim for healthy weight loss. Eat healthy foods and get regular exercise and you will get those extra pounds off.

Do not give up and don't let an occasional slip cause you grief. Do your best to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Remember "Everything in moderation".
