How to Market a Restaurant When You Don't Have Time

Running a restaurant can be stressful at times

, because there are so many things that have to go right in order to ensure that customers have a good experience. I'm sure there are moments when you wonder if there's enough time in the day to get everything done. This is why restaurant marketing often gets pushed off to the side. However, it's really important that you learn how to market a restaurant effectively.

There are so many things to do, and constant issues popping up with staff and suppliers. Your time is at a premium, and I can understand that you may feel that learning a marketing strategy could take up too much of your time. Yet, this is one of the most crucial things that a restaurant owner, or manager, needs to do, in order to stay competitive.

Coming up with a consistent restaurant marketing message is a lot easier when you can map out a complete, step-by-step plan to follow. The first thing you should do, is set up a file on your computer where you can keep all information related to marketing. Whenever you need to access a marketing idea or template form, you would simply open up the file and quickly find what you need.

A big part of your plan is to know who your restaurant target market is. These would be the people who frequent your restaurant the most, and those who live and work within a three mile area of your establishment. An easy way to get their information, is to hand out customer comment cards for diners to fill out. You can use these to build up a simple database of target customers that you can continually market to via mail and email.

The very next thing you could work on is creating a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly newsletter to send out to customers who have given you their email address. A newsletter allows you to stay on their minds and offer them regular coupons and specials.

You may not have time to write the newsletter yourself, but you can see if there is someone on your staff who can do this, or, hire a local high school or college student for cheap to write it. All they would have to do is consult with you and your staff about new happenings and put it in the newsletter. This is one of the most effective ways to gain loyalty among existing customers.
