So much is happening around the holidays that it is easy to allow a hectic feeling to become the order of the day. It is also easy to become so busy that you let your exercise program be brushed aside because of lack of time. There are many ways to keep your mood bright and be able to enjoy the seasons while still using up extra calories and reducing holiday stress.

Help your family locate the wonderful holiday displays in your towns' neighborhoods. Take them for a walk and see the wonderful displays that people create. Plan on seeing one or two of them each night after dinner. This will be a happy conclusion to everyone's busy days. Take pictures of them, have a little family contest and vote on the best one. Be sure to get the kids in the pictures.

Remember to fit in some you time' during the holiday shopping season. Little things like parking further away from the store will help by creating a mini-walk. A good stretch of the legs will exhilarate you by filling your lungs with oxygen and increasing your circulation. This can stimulate your thought processes and help you think of that perfect gift for your child's teacher or Great Aunt Elizabeth as you walk to the store.

Schedule a short day trip for you and the family, one that doesn't need lots of preparation. Keep it as spontaneous as possible. Go to an area of town that is usually not visited. A change of scene is always great. Check out the little stores, wander around with no plan, no lists, and no agenda, just GO. There are many treasures waiting for you. You'll be surprised how many things you can cross off of your gift list.

Exercise creates natural endorphins and makes the body happy. Endorphins also relieve your stress and give you more energy to use as you go through the holidays. Being fit and able to do what you need to do easily just makes the day go along better and leaves you feeling satisfied. Life doesn't have to be a struggle and being active physically is so valuable and sometimes just a matter of tweaking your exercise routine can spice it up.
