How To Pack For Family Holidays

How To Pack For Family Holidays

If youll be going away on a fantastic family holiday in the UK in a couple of months

it really isnt too early to start thinking about what youre going to take with you. With families its always better to start planning ahead, so if you dont want to end up rushing your packing the night before and accidentally leave lots of important things behind, you should get started today.

While you dont have to actually get the suitcases out until around one week before youre due to set off it can be a good idea to sit down and make a list in advance. What you take with you will entirely depend on how old your children are though, as different age groups will require varying items.

For instance, if you have a young baby or toddler and this will be their first holiday with the whole family you will want to take enough nappies, baby wipes, tissues and baby clothes for the trip, as well as nappy rash cream, a changing mat, a bib, a breast pump or formula, bottles, a portable steriliser and a first aid kit.

No matter what you think the weather will be like you should always take suncream and a baby sunhat for your child, as just a small amount of time outside could result in sunburn. Also, take some of their toys on holiday with you and remember to request a family-friendly room with a cot when making your reservation!

If your children are a little older youll need to remember to pack a few distractions for the journey to your holiday destination, such as some colouring books and pencils, their favourite music or a toy or two. You should give your children a choice of toys to bring with them so that they dont end up having a tantrum because their favourite teddy bear got left behind, but make sure you only take a few toys otherwise you might end up with a whole suitcase devoted to them!

When it comes to teenagers they might think they know exactly what to take with them, but youll still need to lend a helping hand behind the scenes. Let them pack their clothes (although inform them of the kind of clothing theyll need) and then pack the first aid kit, sun cream and other emergency items yourself. Try to get them to leave their handheld games and laptops behind though so that you can get the whole family together to enjoy some great holiday fun.
