Children don't come with a manual that tells you how to handle and look after them. Hence, it is no easy task to bring up a child. Different children are different and this makes it even more tougher to handle them. Very often because of the existing generation gap, children tend to develop hatred for their parents. Many-a-times they feel suffocated when their parents pressurize them. If you manage to make your children your friends, it will be so much easier to deal with them. If you want your children to like you back, you must first show your love for them. Children are innocent, you cannot expect them to understand your love for them on their own unless you tell them about it. Plan surprises for them once in a while. Get them gifts occasionally. Give them what they want sometimes. This does not mean that you spoil them, by giving them all that they want all the time. However, it certainly won't hurt to listen to their wishes sometimes. Teach your children how to distinguish between what is right and wrong,. When you think that it is the correct time, give them some amount of freedom to make their own decisions as well. Don't be someone who bosses over them 24/7. It is completely okay to give them some leeway at times. Instead of shouting and hitting them when they do something wrong, keep your cool and explain their mistake to them. It is completely okay to show your children that you're angry at them, but screaming and shouting won't do any good. Instead your children will become all the more rebellious. Today's children are ought to be different from how we were in our childhood. Hence sometimes it becomes very difficult to understand them. Listening to your children is the best way to understand them better. Develop a level of trust with your children, so that they feel comfortable to open their hearts and tell you things. At times let the parent in you take rest, and let the friend in you come outside. If you are way too strict with them, they will start hiding things from you. In the bargain, they may sometimes take wrong decisions and fall into problems.
The best way to show your children what is right and wrong, is by yourself setting a good example to them.
