How To Get Cheaper Holidays In 2010

Holidays seem to be so much more expensive this year and with the constant worry

of recession and wondering whether our jobs are safe, many of us have missed out on a holiday in 2009. So we have reached the winter months and find ourselves longing for some sunshine. The BBQ summer that the Met office predicted for us failed to penetrate the dark rain clouds and as winter approaches we find our thoughts turning more and more to the summer holidays we missed out on.

With the recession continuing and the government warning of hard times ahead, how can we sure that booking a holiday is the right thing to do? How do we make sure we get a good deal? Could holidays really be cheaper in 2010? Well, as the interior design experts tell us... it's time to minimise...

There is no rule that says we have to take a two week holiday every year, and while it would be very nice, how about opting for a week or ten days instead, this will probably save you more money than you think and will ensure you don't miss out on your much needed break.

If you normally do that anyway then why not think about a city break. A few days in a lovely hotel with some beautiful scenery, perhaps a little shopping and maybe a theatre show could be just what is needed to recharge your batteries and needn't cost very much at all. Or simply relax in the sunshine on a long weekend away.

During the summer of 2009, many savvy holidaymakers booked ten end eleven night breaks on the internet, but numerous tour operators are now offering these 'in between' holidays to keep up with customer demand.

Britains biggest holiday firm, TUI has reported a 64% rise in bookings for shorter breaks, thier biggest operators, Thomson and First Choice have both increased the number of ten and eleven night breaks by 21% in next year's brochures. Co-operative travel has also noticed a 35% increase in ten night holidays booked.

These holidays make perfect sense as many people find a week's holiday not long enough but two weeks can be too much. A family of four could save a considerable amount of money by going for a shorter break than usual, not only would the holiday be cheaper but you would need less spending money whilst you are there.

Choosing destinations still outside the euro zone is another way to make sure you keep holiday spending down. Holidays in Turkey, Bulgaria, Egypt and Croatia are all very good value for money at the moment and are looking good for next year. So by shortening the length of your holiday and choosing your destination carefully, theres no reason why you cant enjoy cheap holidays this winter and into the summer of 2010.
