A friend recently remarked to me that when it comes to finding a cosmetic dentist, London is one of the hardest places in the world. He decided that, rather than trawling through 6 million different dentists, to simply choose one of the first ones he came across, and book himself an appointment. He assumed that the difficult task of making a decision was now complete, but this was not the case.
He explained to me afterwards that having had a chat with the dentist about his dental history, concerns and questions, the dentist then carried out an examination. What struck my friend was that right from the very beginning the entire visit was about him, and not just his teeth. He felt involved, which felt good.
Except when it came to making a few decisions. Cosmetic dentistry today is nothing like it used to be, with a huge range of options and alternatives to choose from. Often there is no one right way, and it may be a case of personal preference as to which treatment or combination of treatments a person may decide to undertake.

He was offered everything from replacing existing fillings with invisible ones, replacing old crowns with new ones which were also invisible, applying veneers over one or two teeth which were particularly discoloured, and even treatments involving porcelain which would help correct the look of one of two slightly crooked teeth. This was just the first few treatments on offer, and he is now searching through the Internet for more information about the range of treatments he could have done. I anticipate a decision in a few hundred years.
