Understanding How An Invisalign Dentist Could Help You Smile Better

More and more people are looking for an Invisalign dentist in London - but why? Certainly looking for an orthodontist in London isn't unusual - the city has a longstanding reputation for being one of the leading centres of excellence in Europe, but what is it particularly about Invisalign dentists which has managed to get so many people smiling?

If you have ever considered teeth alignment in the last couple of years, either for yourself or for someone else, perhaps a child, you will almost certainly have come across the name Invisalign - but what do they represent? Basically, you will be aware of the fact that for anyone wanting to have teeth alignment carried out there has historically been only two answers. Either have all your teeth pulled out and a set of perfectly chiselled ceramic implants fitted, or wear a brace for anything up to 3 or 4 years.

Wearing braces has been the most cost effective and acceptable answer for most people, and whether you have looked into teeth alignment yourself or not, everybody is aware of what most braces look like. As soon as someone opens their mouth to talk, or even just to smile, you can instantly see the brace. It looks like a mass of wire and metal, and often becomes the most dominant feature of their face. It can be distracting, and is hardly beneficial in encouraging self esteem and self confidence.

This is why so many people are looking for an Invisalign dentist in London, because Invisalign have taken the traditional metal and wire brace and brought it right up to date, screaming and kicking into the 21st century. We live in an age of computer technology, 3D modelling, virtual reality and computer aided design. It is high time that such tools were put to good use, and made to work to create everyday solutions for people. This at least is what Invisalign have thought.

What Invisalign have done is to create what is commonly being referred to as the invisible brace. More accurately it should be referred to as a clear brace, but since it is virtually undetectable unless you really look for it, most people call them invisible braces since to all intents and purposes, they are. But how is this possible, since we have for so long accepted metal and wire as the only means to achieve effective teeth alignment?

Although hard to believe teeth are not fixed permanently in position, and can move quite astonishing distances in the gums. Teeth alignment using braces takes advantage of this fact, and normal metal braces are fixed in by a dentist so that they apply a high amount of pressure on individual teeth at specific angles, encouraging the teeth to move into the desired position and angle over time. This process may take anywhere from 2 to 4 years depending upon the severity of the misaligned teeth.

Invisible braces, or clear braces, from Invisalign work along the same basic principle, but they achieve it in a wholly different way. Rather than one single set of braces which applies constant pressure throughout the process, Invisalign braces apply a small amount of pressure to begin with, and after two weeks the braces are replaced with a new set, slightly different, which nudge the teeth a little further. This process repeats every two weeks, with each subsequent set of braces slightly different from the previous one, helping the teeth to move incrementally step by step.

But here's the real difference, because the clear braces are more like thin gum shields, made from a clear resin, so they slip on and off the teeth easily and conveniently. If you visit an Invisalign dentist in London then a high resolution mould of your teeth is taken, and fed into a computer where the dentist is then able to manipulate your teeth in virtual reality, creating the perfect alignment. The computer then generates the individual stages necessary to achieve the end result, and then fabricates the sets of braces accordingly. It's an amazing twist on the traditional brace, and is certainly opening new possibilities for anyone interesting in improving their smile.
