Housing loans to be costlier soon
There is some shocking news for home loan seekers
, as HDFC Bank is expecting the lending rates to go up by 50 to 75 basis points (bps) in a couple of tranches by the end of current financial year. Bank is also expanding its branch presence in the state from the existing network of 165 branches.
"The root cause being, inflation, which in-spite of RBI's efforts has not come down to satisfactory levels, and is further spreading from food items to non-food items. RBI is cautious and it is expected that, it will act soon to counter that," said, executive director, HDFC Bank Ltd, Paresh Sukthankar. He said, "Due to tightening of liquidity, we could see a hike of 50 - 75 bps in the lending rates. The rise is likely to impact loans across the board including
home loans,
personal loans, and the like. The rise however, will not happen at the first instance.
It will take place in tranchesby the end of current fiscal," said, Sukthankar. "In addition, deposit rates are also likely to increase by 25 - 50 bps by year end. Liquidity in the system has been reduced due to payments to 3G auctions and mismatch between growths in deposits, which is less as compared to loans," said Sukthankar. Sukthankar gave the aforesaid information during a loan mela held in Kadi in Gujarat.
HDFC Bank is planning 150 loan melas across the country by the end of current fiscal, 2011-12. Seven loan melas will be held in Gujarat, including places such as Borsad, Dharampur, Upleta, Jetpur and the like, following the first loan mela in Kadi on August 27, 2010.
HDFC has set a target of around Rs 700 crore as disbursements from 150 loan melas across the country. Company is equally targeting the semi urban and rural segments for its growth. "We have plans to add 150-200 bank branches across the country in the current fiscal. Distribution will be more or less same in the urban as well semi urban and rural segments. Of the planned figures, 18 will be set up in Gujarat, out of which 10 have already commenced operations," said Sukthankar.
