Holidays Are A Turkish Delight

Holidays Are A Turkish Delight

Despite being a secular state, Turkey is 99% Muslim although visiting the country

will mean you can still see many shops and outlets that you can in Western Europe. This is a problem for some of the Turkish people who feel their routes lie with the Muslims who would dress very differently to those of the Western world.

Turkey is a Eurasian country that is bordered by no less than 8 countries; Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq and Syria. This gives Turkey its uniqueness as you get a taste of many different cultures in one country. Turkey has been trying to mould itself into a Western civilisation for many years and their attempts to join the European Union led to many well-know brands of shops being built.

A considerable amount of money was invested by the Ottoman Empire into the arts so there are plenty of museums, theatres and opera houses in the country with some impressive architecture available to see too. If you are visiting Turkey you should try and see some of these as it give you a true insight into the culture of the country, its governments and its people. Many tourists like to see the arts and culture of a city to get a better feel for their history.

If you like the water then you are in luck as there are a range of water activities to do that allow you to see some amazing things. You can dive with some sea turtles in the Aegean Sea or how about some white water rafting to get the adrenaline going. Turkey used to be a very cheap place to visit but that has all changed nowadays.

Some places have kept their prices down but cities like Istanbul and the capital Ankara are quite expensive but still offer great value for money. The nightlife here is fantastic and again the mix in cultures makes for a fascinating night out but whatever your music taste you should be able tot find something you like. Before hitting the bars though you should experience some Turkish cuisine and it is definitely something you should do as it is very special.

Turkish cuisine takes its influence from the Middle East so there are plenty of spices but it is extremely tasty and is worth trying. If you like a kebab then the quality of the ones available there are fresh and tasty and are considerably better than any other one you would have had before.
