Sardinia is renowned for its hefty price tag, in fact a local joke among locals that the Sardinian flag is a shopping receipt.

At one point Alghero was home to the Italian royal house of Savoy, and has passed through the hands of many colonists thanks to its strategic harbour setting.
While the city centre is not flashing beautiful it is its charm that prevails, its lying in its monastery, rather than boastful architecture. It is a town of noble antiquity, you can sense a history as you walk through, and great care that has gone in to preserving an authentic slice of Mediterranean life, rather than pursuing tourist money as a resort, instead retaining a great Italian sense of identity and style.

Local here sell fresh fish, and wholesome produce that seems to resonate with a sense of honesty, free of commercial foibles. They speak a strange dialect of Italian fused with Spanish that all contributes to the unique appeal of the setting.
Around the town there is a great abundance of natural beauty, you can take a twenty minute trip from town and be surrounded by good old Sardinian countryside, there are sweeping leaf laden pastures, the kind in which you can easily imagine reclining in with a fine bottle of wine, as you pass the day with a pleasant picnic.
