Great Tips On Juicing For Kids

Just about every parent has some issues with getting their kids to eat fruits and/or vegetables

. What works for some families, doesn't always work for others. Juicing is a great way to help your kids get their daily requirement of fruits and veggies.

When you use a juicer to extract the juice from fruits and vegetables, the produce is fed into a chute and fibers are broken down. The pulp from the produce is separated and you are left with juice containing beneficial enzymes and high quality nutrients in concentrated form. Because of this, a small amount of fresh juice can have as much nutritional bang as a large serving of vegetables.

Here are a few points to consider when juicing for kids.

1. Kids are generally wary about trying anything new.

* Start off juicing fruits as they are usually more palatable for children. Try fruits they like first, and then add less familiar ones. Kiwi, papaya, and mango all have those rich colors that are packed with superior vitamins and minerals. Once that has been accepted, add a vegetable component. Carrots are a good start, but also consider celery, cucumber or beetroot.

* Serve the juice in small portions at first. Consider using a shot glass, or another fun small cup. Taking a few swallows of the juice will not seem overwhelming to start with, and the kids will likely come back for more.

* Add fruit and veggie juice to smoothies. Most kids love smoothies, and if they are not accepting the fresh juice on its own, this is a good way to incorporate it into their diet.

2. Involve them.

* Allow your children to choose produce they would like to try juiced. Take them to the fresh market and explore the choices available. Let them help create recipe blends.

* Get them involved in preparation. Washing, peeling, chopping can all be done by your children, if age appropriate. Supervised feeding of fruit and vegetable pieces into the juicer can also prove to be a lot of fun.

3. Give them water.

* When beginning juicing, mixing the fresh juice with one part water will help little tummies as the juice could prove to be quite potent.

* Kids generally love fruit juices, but you must also consider that they have a lot of natural sugars and acids that can lead to tooth decay. Most vegetable juices do not cause the same concern. Moderation is best. Frequently offering water throughout the day will help with rinsing the mouth clean and aid digestion.

And here are a few points to consider as a parent.

1. Set the right example.

* Consuming fresh juice yourself will go a long way with your kids. Invariably if they see you do it, they eventually will do it too. By drinking your own fresh juice, you will benefit from the energy it gives you as you engage in all areas of parenting.

2. Observe.

* Be aware that as you introduce new things into your children's diets that not everything will always agree with them. Record what you have juiced and the amounts used so that you can make adjustments if there are any problems with digestion, such as excessive diarrhea, or pain.

3. Play it cool.

* Your attitude will set the tone for your children. Make it a relaxed, enjoyable environment for them to try the juice. Putting pressure on kids or adding stress rarely gets good results. Encourage them, but don't make it a big deal.
