Altiyan Childs Releases Debut Album
A native of Mount Isa, Queensland, Childs is an avid guitar player and vocalist who specialises in the genre of good old fashioned rock and roll
. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Sydney, the son of a Serbian mother and Croatian father, and created his first band at the tender age of thirteen, naming it Over the Top. After graduating from high school, he formed a second band with his friends and christened the new group Masonia, which achieved some minor fame in 2004. Sadly, the band dissolved four years later - so, at the time that Altiyan Childs was auditioning for The X-Factor, he was but a humble forklift driver based in Sydney.Since then, Childs has come a long way. After emerging from The X-Factor fresh with victory and acclaim from some of television's toughest judges, Childs wasted no time signing an impressive and lucrative recording contract with none other than Sony Music Australia, and his wildly popular debut single "Somewhere in the World" was made available for electronic downloading shortly after his win on The X-Factor in November. On December 10, 2010, Altiyan Childs released his first ever solo album throughout Australia, and was certified as platinum within only a week of its fresh release to the public. Since then, it has claimed the sought after number three spot on the New Zealand Albums Chart, where it has been certified gold.
The album mostly consists of covers of popular and widely acclaimed classic rock hits. Its track listing includes Altiyan Childs' own unique renditions of "Livin' On A Prayer," which has already achieved fame in the world of popular covers through American hit television musical series Glee, "Eye of the Tiger," "Summer of '69," "Beautiful Day," and of course winner's very own hit single "Somewhere in the World." Childs' evocative performances of these classic pieces have garnered high praise from critics and consumers alike. Other songs on the album include "Hey, Soul Sister," "Blaze of Glory," "Never Tear Us Apart," "The Lady in Red," "The Living Years," and "Sex on Fire."
While clearly intending to follow in the footsteps of such rock legends as Bono, Kings of Leon, and Bon Jovi, among other widely acclaimed artists that Childs has successfully covered, it is nonetheless clear that Childs makes music his own. While performing his own spins on old songs, Childs remains true to his own musical voice, and an impressive voice it is. This is, after all, the man who won on The X-Factor - hardly an easy feat, especially considering how difficult it is to even get past the first round of auditions!
