Get The Classic Look With Statue Halloween Costumes
Return to antiquity for a costume you may not have seen much of lately
. With all of those superheroes and fairies, statue Halloween costumes could stand out. You could look to modern influences, but to be really obvious in your role consider some of the most famous examples. To do this you need to create a cardboard column which fits around your legs, reaching up to just past your elbows. Remember how Greek columns appear, with flat square top and bottom, perhaps some ridges along the sides. Chances are, unless made wide enough, your whole body will not fit into the column, so consider forming it just half way around your body and positioning yourself at the party or your front door where the back side will not be seen. Paint the column white, then select a medium from which you were created: bronze or marble perhaps. This will mean selecting a suitable color of top, draped tunic-style over your shoulders, and painting your face bronze or white. Go complete still, then come to life and scare people.
Become a whole Greek statue if you prefer. Finding images of ancient Greek statuary poses no challenge since many famous examples exist to work from. Your main outfit is the toga or long gown gathered at the shoulders, with perhaps a loose belt at the waist. Add sandals and you have your costume, crossing the laces all the way up to below your knees.
Next, buy or make sandals to lace in criss-cross fashion up to below the knee, also in white. Female hair-styles can be braided and tucked close to the scalp, or caught up high with tendrils dangling prettily. Portray Caesar with a crown made from foliage circling at the temples.
Perhaps the most popular statue portrayed at costume parties and Halloween is The Statue of Liberty. The obvious theme here is green. Use a similar style of gown to that of the Greek statue.
Apart from green, the next most important feature of Liberty is her crown. Create her distinctive seven-pointed head piece either by fashioning cardboard into a band or using a regular green-covered headband. To either of these attach your cardboard, construction paper or foam points. Foam is perhaps the most durable and will not need to be painted. Fashion a cone from cardboard, make sure you get the color right, then insert orange tissue paper for her torch.
