And Gazza has hit the news again with a warning from a Newcastle judge that he could end up behind bars having admitted driving whilst four times over the legal limit on 8 October in Newcastle. He was stopped by the police and the judge heard that he had 142mg of alcohol in his blood legally is should be no more than 35mg.
Gazza was banned immediately and will be sentenced on 11 November after reports have been studied.
He will travel to Northallerton Magistrates Court in early November to have the case about the takeaway shop incident. It's likely the shop in question will continue to be in the market for cheap takeaway insurance.
Footballing hero Gazza had a playing career which spanned 20 years and came to prominence during the Italian World Cup in 1990. He played for a number of high profile teams, including Everton, Lazio, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Tottenham and Rangers. In all, he played for England 57 times.
After the takeaway incident Gazza and another man were held in custody at the Northallerton police station and both were released on bail the day after.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire police said:
"At 9.10pm on Sunday, officers from North Yorkshire Police were called to a disturbance at a takeaway at Leeming Bar. Following inquiries, two men, aged 42 and 40, from the Newcastle area, were arrested on suspicion of being drunk while in charge of a motor vehicle."
Gazza, a hero for thousands of England and Newcastle fans, has been detained three times in 2008 under the Mental Health Act.
No doubt the staff at the Leeming Bar food establishment will testify to the common sense of having a comprehensive takeaway insurance policy. Having a footballing star turn up at your takeaway must at first have seemed a bonus, then things obviously took a turn for the worst.
