Sydney Australia is one of the most visited cities in the world

. Located on the picturesque Sydney Harbour Bay, Sydney is home to some of Australia's most photographed and iconic attractions. There is a good range of Sydney accommodation available but as this is always a major expense we have put together a list of free attractions and activities in Sydney to help save few dollars.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk: Known by Sydney residents as 'The Coathanger' you can walk (as opposed to climb) across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are spectacular views from the Bridge and great photo opportunities of Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House.

Art Gallery of New South Wales: Centrally located in Sydney's Domain the Art Gallery of New South Wales is open daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free, Charges may apply to special exhibitions. The Gallery contains important collections of Australian, European and Asian art.

Museum of Contemporary Art: Located on Sydney Harbours West Circular Quay the Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art is dedicated to exhibiting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world. Australian National Maritime Museum: Entry to the Museum's galleries and exhibitions is free though charges do apply to board the onsite vessels HM Bark Endeavour, HMAS Vampire, HMAS Onslow (submarine) and the 1974 barque James Craig. The Museum is located at 2 Murray Street, Darling Harbour (just under the Pyrmont Bridge).

Darling Harbour: Darling Harbour is a buzz of eateries, shops, attractions, exhibitions and convenient Sydney accommodation. There are a large number of events centred around the harbour with the Sydney Exhibition and Conference hosting a large number of annual events and the harbour itself featuring events such as the annual Chinese dragon boat festival. There is a network of water channels and grassed areas which also offer excellent opportunities to relax.

Sydney Beaches: There are a number of beaches in Sydney which offer the opportunity to swim, snorkel, surf or sit back and enjoy the views. While Sydney's beaches take in most of the coast from Pal Beach to Cronulla, Bondi Beach is the most well known and a mecca for tourists.

Royal Botanic Gardens: Located in the heart of Sydney the Royal Botanic Gardens span 20 hectares of land and features a variety of gardens including the Pioneer Garden, Camellia Garden, Herb Garden and the Rare and Threatened Species Garden. The Gardens also offer spectacular views across to Sydeny Harour Opera House and Bridge.

Government House: Located within the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney's Government House is open to the public and offers free guided tours Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Government House offers some impressive colonial architecture, furnishings and gardens.

St Mary's Cathedral: Located on one corner of Hyde Park in central Sydney St Mary's Cathedral is an impressive Australian colonial Church. It is the Spiritual home of Sydney's Catholic community and that of Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney. It is of a Gothic Revival style and is located on the same site as the first Catholic Chapel in Australia.

Bicentennial Park: Located 16km's from the Sydney CBD in Homebush Bay, Sydney's Bicentennial Park covers 100 hectares including wetlands and parklands. It is a part of Sydney's Olympic Park. There are picnic areas, playgrounds, bike paths and walking tracks as well as numerous shelters and BBQ facilities.
