Flip Mino HD Review

As small HD camcorders go, the Flip Mino HD is the best in it's class. This pocket sized video camera is sturdy and scratch resistant making it capable of tolerating a rough treatment. Similar to it's big brother Flip video camera, the Flip Mino HD is as easy as they come to operate. Simply turn the camera on and push the big red button on the back to begin recording. Press the button again to end recording.

When the Flip Mino originally hit the market it only had 2GB of memory and about a one hour battery life. Today's models has developed into an 8GB powerhouse with a two hour battery life. This translates into 2 hours of HD video.

This video camera, like all of the Flip video models connects to your computer via a USB port connection which "flips" out from the side of the camera. The Mino HD also comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery which recharges easily through the USB connection. No cords or chargers to keep track of with this camcorder.

The HD video quality is excellent with a resolution of 720p at 30 frames/sec.. While the Flip Mino HD does come with a 2x zoom feature, it's a digital zoom rather than the more preferred optical zoom which maintains it's picture quality better. It's built in microphone quality is good for speech but it only records in mono.

The software included with the camera, called FlipShare, lets you easily share your videos online as well organize them how you wish on your own computer. Uploading videos to YouTube and other video sharing sites can be done from the software interface as well as adding music to your videos and taking screen captures to share with friends and family.

Weighing in at only 3.3 ounces, the Flip Mino HD fits easily in your hand and in your pocket. With built-in image stabilization, an easy to use interface and low price is a great video camcorder to have around. Still not enough? There are numerous accessories available to tweak the camera for you. From HDMI cables so that you can watch your videos on your big screen TV to a waterproof case so you can video that canoe trip or just standing out in the rain.
