A carved pumpkin would also work well. We are used to seeing a pumpkin at Halloween. It is best to use it though, only if it fits in well with the other props, or alone by itself while you concentrate on decorating the inside of your house.
So that is how to decorate the outside of your home. Not everybody wants to decorate outside their home whether for time or cost reasons. These props are not essential though, as your friends will be spending most of their time inside your house, not outside.
For props inside your house, there are Halloween props that are quite suitable including spider webs - perhaps with a nasty huge spider on it, or rats, or bats. Rat holes or drains are great to make your home look disease infested with zombie rodents.
To stick to solid surfaces you can buy eerie eyes that appear to leer at you as you move around the room, or full monster images that look like they are actually present in the room rather than a piece of art. Sticking these props to mirror or glass is a great way to bring these parts of your room to life. Or you may like to get a few cut out life size figures. Speaking of which do not forget to buy Halloween props that will go well with your costume. You could acquire some weapons, or go for things like decapitated heads, disembowelled intestines or a prosthetic scar to freak out your guests.
You can recreate the classic haunted graveyard effect with a fog machine to create that spookily cold and misty effect. You can also get Halloween themed drapes or wallpaper or table rolls to further create the desired effect. Some horror movie music will complete the effect.
Before we forget, let us also mention that there are also animated props that you can buy. There is no better way to scare someone than when they are taken by surprise. A prop that suddenly moves can seriously scare someone.
