Barog is a very small town emerging as a chief holiday appeal to spend a day. It was once an imperative halt in the earlier period of the century when the Kalka-Shimla toy train halted here for an hour while the British enjoyed a three course lunch. The destination is one of the best on the line with its hanging baskets of pink geraniums, was given this name after the engineer Barog.

Just about 3km from the hill station is the grave of Barog. The poor guy was unsuccessful in supporting both the sides of the tunnel and so they say he ended his life after that. It is assumed that if the passageway had been suitably built it would have been the greatest in the world.
Enclosed by pine forests, Barog is nowadays a holiday destination for people who are hunting for tranquility, silence and isolation. It has some beautiful sights and walks and one must experience the one that takes you to the Choordhar Mountains at an altitude of 3650 ft. The moonlight cleanses down the snowy slopes making it seem as if several silver bangles are descending down silently.

Another place of magnetism of Barog is the Spencer Restaurant which again dates back to the British Raj. It used to have different enclosures for the British, the Hindus and the Muslims.
