Dating back to the 1880s is the beautiful Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens situated in the centre of Kuala Lumpur
. These gardens spread out over an area of around 91 hectares and offer spectacular views of wonderful greenery and lively flora and fauna. The gardens include a Childrens playground, jogging track, and also the famous Butterfly Farm.Housing close to 6000 butterflies from over 120 species, this garden, farm or reserve as it is known is a large area covered in net to prevent the butterflies flying away. However this netting is set very high and offers no hindrance to the butterflies in any manner.
What is noteworthy is the effort put, into making the area resemble the Butterflies natural habitat the rain forests. For this purpose more than 15000 plants have been used to recreate a tropical Malaysian Rain Forest. An exceptional hydro pond with a lime stone path in its centre adds immensely to the farms breathtaking beauty. A gazebo surrounds the pond, from which a splendid view can be commandeered.
Walking along, the visitor will see wonderful specimens of colourful, flitting butterflies on the plants and shrubs around, and if you are lucky the butterflies may even come to rest upon your shoulder!
The park also houses an insect museum with a thrilling collection of bugs and beetles some of them alive. There is also a section which gives the visitor an opportunity to observe the enchanting moment of the birth or emergence of the butterfly from its chrysalis.
