In some situations they even negotiate with the prosecution if no other options are available or if it is the best option.
A prosecutor is the one that is trying to prove the defendant is guilty. They work on the governments behalf and sometimes work on more than one case at a time. What they do is build a case against the defendant to prove they are guilty. They gather evidence, testimony, and create doubt in the jurors mind.
