FILM Tron: Legacy 3D Editor's picks for London

Sam Flynn is technical savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn and looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous. http://bit.ly/fRDzcd

OPERA Royal Opera House: Hansel and Gretel

This is the classic story of Hansel and Gretel, two children who venture into the forest, leaving a trail of breadcrumbs behind them, only to be found by an evil witch who lives in a gingerbread house. Of course, she wants to have her wicked way with the children and plots to turn them into biscuits! This is a magical score for the chilly winter months, and is a wonderful cuddly piece of culture to do around Christmas time. http://bit.ly/eUAhrV

EVENT Tudor Christmas

This Christmas at the palace that was once home to Henry VIII, they will be celebrating in the Tudor way with a series of traditional workshops and events. Around the palace there will be actors dressed up, whispering rumours about King Henry VIII and his romances with Catherine Howard and Anne of Cleves. Tudor Christmas will explore this tangled love triangle, alongside showing how the Tudors celebrated Christmas, with massive banquets set up, court dancing, and merriment from the Fool. This is a great historical day out with lots to see and do. http://bit.ly/e6G7Ps

CLASSICAL Christmas Spectacular

Presented by Myleene Klass, this is an evening of festive carols and classical Christmas songs with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra leading the tunes. There will be a light spectacular and indoor fireworks in this rousing event - the last show of the year at the O2. It will feature faces such as Rhydian Roberts, Ruthie Henshall, Wynne Evans, and Alison Jiear in a memorable performance. http://bit.ly/i4Army

MUSIC The Pogues

Shane McGowan brings his trade-mark shambolic, toothless rock to venues around the UK as part of The Pogues traditional December tour for the final time this year. Since they first began eight years ago, these sell-out seasonal gigs have become synonymous with Christmas. Expect to hear tin whistle, cittern, mandolin and accordion, as well as a rendition of the festive classic 'Fairytale Of New York', which was voted the best Christmas song of all time three years running in 2004, 2005 and 2006 in polls by music channel VH1 UK, despite not achieving Christmas Number One when it was originally released. Be part of the ultimate seasonal send-off. http://bit.ly/hJMkuc

CLASSICAL Santa's Christmas Cracker

Children's choirs from Southend will join forces and sing carols and Christmas tunes accompanied by the London Concert Orchestra. They will be singing festive classics such as 'Sleigh Ride', 'Jingle Bells', 'Winter Wonderland', and 'White Christmas'. There will also be a quiz by Santa's elves and even an appearance from the man himself. A pure winter warmer. http://bit.ly/hH4kVv

GALLERY Crypt-mas

Illumini takes you on a journey of an alternative Christmas, one never been seen before. Walls lit with bright colourful projections and effects guide the way, passing illuminating artworks that will dazzle and amaze guests of all ages. Hidden deep inside is Illumini's very own Father Christmas, an art installation based on a futuristic, robotic Santa. He is there to greet all his guests from young to old, with surprises and gifts for the children. The event has been designed for everyone no matter what age, to enjoy a free alternative Christmas art experience. http://bit.ly/hGePxZ

MUSIC G-A-Y New Year's Eve Party

New Year's Eve can't get any gayer than this at the G-A-Y New Year's Eve party at Heaven. G-A-Y has been holding its clubnights at Heaven since 2008 when it moved there from the Astoria. The clubnight is well known for grabbing spots for gay icons to perform and in the past acts such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears have played at the clubnight. Tonight some X Factor rejects will be bringing in the New Year with Stavros Flatley, Lucie Jones, Ruth Lorenzo (pictured), and Rachel Adedeji all playing sets until the wee hours. Before they hit the stage commercial R'n'B and 80s and 90s classics will be playing up until midnight when the crowd will go wild. http://bit.ly/faBhdB Editor's picks for London

THEATRE Season's Greetings

Alan Ayckbourn - the king of English stage comedy in the '70s. He's been somewhat out of fashion these past two decades, not helped by a slew of unsatisfying forays into sci-fi. But Seasons Greetings remains evergreen - a viciously funny expose of the miseries of an average family Christmas: the cheating at snakes and ladders, the fighting over comic books, bungled infidelities beneath the tree. Add a sprinkle of some of the UK's finest current comedy talent to the cast - including Catherine Tate, Katherine Parkinson of The IT Crowd, and The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss - and this production will doubtless feel as cutting-edge as a Christmas pud spiked with razor-sharp lucky charms. http://bit.ly/dE5yvo

COMEDY Jim Jefferies: Alcoholocaust

Dividing audiences around the UK this show from Jim Jefferies shall not leave you disappointed. He's clocked up five Edinburgh fringe sell-out shows, numerous TV appearances and his own HBO comedy special. Never afraid to court controversy, playing up the alluring persona of a hard-drinking rock and roll comic trampling over society's niceties. This is not just a one dimensional performance with flat lined gags and easy punch lines. He perhaps uses hard-edged, uncomplicated foul-mouthed rants to show he is a showman without boundaries. Audiences will then get see what's behind this as he delves into topics such as atheism, his depression, dependence on booze, entertaining the troops in Iraq and losing his virginity. Prepare for the unexpected the Jim Jefferies.
