There's nothing like having to go to meetings in Manhattan Beach

. While, no, this doesn't mean you can show up in Bermuda shorts and flip-flops (not usually), it does mean you can spend a day at a sponsored event within a stone's throw of the Great Southern Californian Beach. Yes, come prepared to be straight-laced and proper -- but be ready to shed it all, book a room, and spend the weekend at the beach.

You would like the beauty of having your business event or meeting in Manhattan Beach would seem to be self-evident. But, not everyone is called to rest and relax on the beautiful beaches in and around Manhattan and Hermosa Beach. Yes, it's hard to imagine, but some people just don't feel compelled to walk barefoot in the sand, skirting around the rushing tide, basking in the resplendent sun that seems unique to Southern California. Who are these people? That's a question for the ages. Thankfully, these people are few and far between.

What makes Manhattan Beach so special when it comes to business events and meetings? Location, location, location. Yes, there is the beach -- and the weather -- but what's a good selling point is its proximity to LAX. Now, for those of you who happen to have experienced what seminars in and around LAX hotels are like, it goes without saying that if you had the option of the cookie-cutter chain hotel banquet hall or a sleek, ultra-hip meeting room in a contemporary hotel straddling the beach, the choice would be an easy one. On the one hand: a dour hotel in earshot of the airport -- on the other: a breathtaking hotel on the beach.

Should you subscribe to the mistaken idea that decor doesn't really matter -- or that location is overrated -- all I can say is: alas. Enjoy your depressing business seminar under the fluorescent lights. Everyone else -- enjoy the sparkling water, the fine pastries, the cater meals, the rich decor and the track lights. Like it or not, the space you spend time is affects how you feel. So, why would you waste your time -- and the time of your business associates -- with a space that doesn't please, captivate, or inspire? Trust me, your lecture or seminar will probably boring enough -- give your associates something to hold onto!

Very well, then, that may be unfair. I'm sure your slideshow about productivity or usability will be a riveting one. Still, why not invest in factors that can positively affect the outcome? Why make it harder for people to hear what you're saying? Why put yourself behind the veritable eight ball? Instead, sweet the deal by booking a meeting facility that has panache. Think of it this way -- would Sinatra play the local Marriott? Now, would he play a intimate set under track lighting? See what I mean?
