Do I Have To Buy Insurance For My Courier Driver?

Do I Have To Buy Insurance For My Courier Driver?

Insurance is something that you always want to be sure of before you ship anything with a courier driver

. As such, you should always take the time to open a dialogue with your Atlanta courier about their insurance before you ship anything with them. Although they will have insurance of some kind, otherwise they wouldn't be able to stay in business; the particulars can differ greatly from courier to courier. So, if you're using a company for the first time, it is always good to get a look into their insurance model before you actually entrust any of your products into their hands.

There is always going to be some degree of insurance coverage provided for you by a courier company. This is called courier insurance, and it protects against the things that might commonly go wrong when you're having a delivery made. These include insuring against things like the package becoming damaged in an accident or being lost. If you need insurance for events other than these you may have to look into purchasing additional coverage.

This might include something like if you're going to store something with the courier company. Now, they may have insurance which is included in your storage order. You may have the option to opt out of that insurance if you wish to provide your own, or feel it is inadequate protection.

You may also feel that the coverage on the orders while being shipped is inadequate. This is something that usually only comes up for companies that are shipping goods which are very high value. In these situations there sometimes is not a high enough maximum coverage value on the insurance policy. This is another situation where you may decide to purchase insurance of your own to cover the shipment.

The driver himself however will have insurance which is provided either by himself, or by the courier company depending on the business model that they are using. This will provide regular vehicle insurance and coverage against liability in the case of a traffic accident, very similar to the insurance that would be carried by anyone driving in a professional capacity. That certainly isn't something that is ever going to be the responsibility of the company that is shipping products. If it appears that there is no coverage of this kind in place, it may be an immediate red flag that this is a courier company that you may not want to do business with.
