It is the fifth largest city in Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Aravali Mountains. The shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja moinuddin Chishti, hence it is a pilgrimage Centre. Nearby lies Hindu pilgrimage Centre, Pushkar, famous for Brahma temple. Targarh fort and Lake foy Sagar, Nareli Jain temple, Anasagar Lake are major attractions. Ajmer is one of the place were royal pilgrims halt. They produce cotton, woolen textiles, leather, hosiery, shoes, soap, and pharmaceuticals and also have engineering workshops, re-rolling mills, electronic component plants etc.
Ajmer is situated around 390 Km from Delhi. Driving on the NH 8, one has to pass through Gurgaon and Jaipur before reaching Delhi. The average time taken for a road trip is around 5 hours 30 minutes.
When it comes to selecting the best mode of transport, one will be spoilt with choices. Transportation includes road, rails. Best way is on road.
Choosing rail as a mode of transport, there are quite a lot train connection to travel from Delhi to Ajmer. The total fare normally is around Rs.537 to Rs. 780 only, in local trains. In Ajmer Shathabdi Express, departs from Delhi at 06:05 am and reaches Ajmer at 12:45 am. It is high in Shathabdi its Rs. 590. But in normal train it is Rs. 180.Chetak Express departs from Delhi at 19.40 pm and stops at Ajmer at 2.00 am. It takes 6 hours for the journey.
Choosing road as a mode of transport is another good option. There are many connecting buses from Delhi to Ajmer. The fare in Volvo buses, according to seats booked may be between Rs.400 to Rs. 700.
If one doesnt fancy travelling by bus, a private taxi would be another option which can easily cost Rs.8000 and upwards for a round trip. This maybe a good option, when one is travelling with family, senior citizens and children.
Alternatively, travelling by airway is another option. But nearest airport for reaching Ajmer is in Jaipur.
