Different Areas of Manhattan by:Maria Alvarez

Manhattan makes up a number of neighborhoods that all have their own style and contribution to the city as a whole

. Most of the areas have a great mix of business and residential life. They all have great places to eat, drink and relax or party. There is always a blend of people walking around. Some in a hurry and some just out for a stroll.

There are areas that are well known such as the East Village, Soho, Broadway, Mid-Town, Central Park and Harlem. Each of these areas have there own sections. Lower Manhattan has Battery Park City, the Financial District and TriBeCa. If you are walking in the TriBeCa area of Manhattan you could see some of the famous residents that have homes there such as Meryl Streep, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Kelly Ripa and Beyonce Knowles. The Financial District is famous itself with the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and is now the memorial of were the World Trade Center was located before its fall on September 11 2001.

Then moving into Mid-Lower Manhattan give another perspective of the city with Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo and the Lower East Side. Each of these areas has some great things to experience. One can find some great food in Chinatown and Little Italy. SoHo is were there are some great art galleries open with the latest trends and the Lower East Side has always been the immigrant neighborhood. This is were many of the immigrant workers live and is undergoing a face lift these days.

As one moves into the area known as the villages with the East Village, Greenwich Village and West Village they will notice a more upper middle class family feel these days. This was originally the home of the Beat Movement and was considered the bohemian capital. There have been many film scenes set in Washington Square Park, in Greenwich Village and is recognized immediately when first seen. There are also some great off Broadway theatre's in Greenwich Village that put on some great shows. All of Manhattans Designers spend time in the Fashion Center section of Midtown South Manhattan. Hitting Midtown Manhattan will be a given when visiting the Rockefeller Center, the Shows on Broadway and the action in Time Square. The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are also apart of the Midtown Manhattan area. When visiting the east side of Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum than one is in the Upper East Side. This is a beautiful area of town. If one walks over to the west side of Central Park they will be spending time in the Upper West Side were one can catch a great performance at the Lincoln Center. The only way to see Manhattan is one area at a time.
