Cutting Your Own Christmas Trees For The Holidays!
Cutting your own Christmas tree can be a fun and exciting holiday activity for the
whole family! Before you try cutting your own Christmas tree, however, it is a good idea to learn a bit about the process, procedures, and dangers of cutting trees down on your own.The first thing to remember is that you can't go out into the forest and cut down a tree unless you own the land or get permission from the landowner. If you want to cut a tree on government land such as the National Forest or a state park, you will probably have to buy a permit to do that. If you want to cut a tree at a tree farm you may have to pay the owner for privilege.
What Tools to Bring
Once you have legal permission to cut down a tree you will need to bring the proper tools for tree cutting. Many city slickers will mistakenly think that they'll need for an ax for this. The only place people cut trees down with axes is in the movies.
It will be much faster and easier to use a saw to cut a Christmas tree. Most people should be able to cut a small tree such as those used for Christmas trees with a handsaw. The best saw to use for this is a limb saw which can be purchased at most hardware stores.
A person can also use a chainsaw to cut down a Christmas tree. Since chainsaws can be dangerous it is best not to use one unless you have experience with one. If you've had experience with a chainsaw you can safely and easily use one to cut a Christmas tree.
If you're bringing the kids along to cut a Christmas tree it might not be a good idea to use a chainsaw, because people have to stand back while these are being used. The kids won't be able to watch the tree cutting because of the debris the chain throws out. Since most Christmas trees are small it won't take long to cut a tree with a handsaw.
The only tool you'll need to bring to cut a Christmas tree is the saw and maybe a sled to haul it on.
