As with anything, Halloween props come in a wide variety of styles and sizes to suit any budget, from a simple tombstone to a full-fledged animatronic zombie that appears to rise from the very earth itself.Creepy Graveyard Ideas for Halloween

Static props, like tombstones, are a great idea for setting the scene and giving the right atmosphere. A few well placed tombstones in a section of your yard that you have cordoned off for a cemetery makes for a very creepy yard display that seems to reel in your visitors, and a fully functional animated zombie prop gives them the final fright at just the right time.

Tombstones

When choosing a tombstone prop, choose one that is light-weight and durable. Most tombstone props are made of rigid plastic or Styrofoam, and are light-weight, and easy to manage. They almost always have spikes in the bottom for placement in soil. Keep in mind though, if you have hard or rocky soil, it will be difficult to keep in the ground. In this instance, it is a good idea to mount it up with some small to mid size rocks. They will help keep your tombstone firmly in place.

If you feel up to the challenge, why not try to make your own? If you have access to sheets of white Styrofoam insulation, draw a tombstone pattern, cut it out with a sharp knife, and paint it as you see fit. This way, you can place your own epitaph on them. Or if you are so inclined, use a sheet of plywood. They will be considerably more durable and will likely last for many years.

Coffins

Not everyone has access to real burial caskets, and quite frankly they have a hard time lending them out to just anyone who happens to be alive. So, the next best thing would be to build one. You can either go elaborate and use your carpentry skills to build one out of wood, or simply build one from cardboard. The choice is entirely up to you.

Animated PropsCreepy Graveyard Ideas for Halloween

Animated Halloween props are simply the most fun you can have without doing your own acting. A well made, frightening animated prop will send shivers up the spines of your guests and will quite possibly make the more squeamish turn tail and run for the hills. There are so many animated Halloween props out there that it would take forever to list them here, so practice due diligence and do your own research. Many large department stores like Wal-mart and Zellers offer up reasonable animated props at a good price, but for the truly discerning halloweenie, you need to find them online at quality Halloween-specific sites. Sites like BuyCostumes.com or Halloween Ideas Online! for example. These sites have great Halloween props that are well-made and realistic. With gory features and ratty, dirty clothes, these props are a sure-fire hit for any haunted house.

Fencing

What would be the point in having an area sectioned off for your cemetery and you didn't have appropriate fencing? With graveyard fencing, you can add an authentic feel to your cemetery. It is important to find fencing that has the aged look for that old graveyard feel. Then you can finish it off with a cemetery gate that is enshrouded with spider webs. Creepy!

All in all, how you build your haunted house is completely up to you. It is important to remember, that no matter how you do it, you must keep it safe. Nothing spoils Halloween faster than a lawsuit. So play safe and have a great Halloween.
