Creating The Magical Myth Of Santa Claus For Your Child

One of the most spectacular joys of a child's Christmas is the mystery of Santa Claus. When we are young, it is easy to imagine a man flying around the world, led by reindeer and delivering gifts to all the children of the world. Once we are adults, we realize not just the implausibility of this act, but the irony in believing that everyone is blessed enough to have a delivery of gifts. As a child though, it is part of the magical fun of the holiday season and parents who want to let their kids be kids can bring Santa into a number of the holiday traditions. In addition to teaching your children the joy of giving and the spirit of the season, bring the idea of Santa alive for them and let them enjoy the magic of their childhood. Start early in the holiday season and turn regular events into things that are related to Santa. If your home is undergoing improvements by roofers or patio enclosures, you can work this into your Santa myth. Help your child focus on the holiday season without getting worked up and over excited by creating the tradition of Santa's helpers watching their behavior. This is a common trick a lot of parents use and they tell their children that elves are watching what they do and reporting back to Santa. Songs have even been created around this myth. Some parents take it even further by bringing a stuffed toy or doll into the house that is meant to observe the child and assure Santa things are going well and the child deserves a visit on Christmas Eve.If your child is naturally curious as most kids are and they spot a few mall Santas, they may have questions. Create a plausible story before you need it for why there are Santas all over the place. You can tell your child Santa moves from mall to mall and they must be extra special since Santa seems to show up whenever they are in the mall. You can also tell them the Santa's in the area are look-a-likes or helpers, assisting Santa with mall visits. To make things extra special, clue them into the fact that one of those mall Santas is the real one and that's the one they'll get to visit and be photographed with.In addition to decorating your home and having your child visit Santa for a photo, incorporate other Santa myths into your holiday seasons. Some areas bring in reindeer for the season in a situation similar to a petting zoo. Kids can visit and feed the reindeer, all the while building more anticipation for Christmas.Lastly, do not forget the age-old tradition of leaving milk and cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. Include a thank you note from the child and leave out a few treats for the reindeer too. Once the kids are sound asleep, parents can leave a note in response. Just be sure to disguise handwriting as your child gets a little older.
