Costa Rica Traveling Safety Tips

Costa Rica is a country where tourists can feel safe while exploring the beauty and wonders of a very unique and relatively unspoiled country. This sense of security comes largely from the people of Costa Rica, known affectionately as Ticos that are renowned to live the Pura Vida or Pure life of peace and honesty.

Their simple living without excess is a common thread throughout Costa Ricans. Poverty is rare as education and health and welfare are available, resulting in a reduction in crime. There is no Costa Rican army as there is nothing to defend. Neighboring countries have experienced turmoil but Costa Rica has continued to remain peaceful. Furthermore, Costa Rica is not considered a gateway for the distribution of drugs in Central America, so this country has not been exposed to the crime associated with neighboring countries involved in the battle of the drug trade.

Despite being known for being safe, traveling in Costa Rica still requires simple common sense and if in doubt, it's best to ask. Basically reduce the risk of something unfortunate happening to you on your Costa Rican vacation. In this regard, Costa Rican hotels are a good bet to guide their guests and travellers on what to see and where to go at any particular point in time. Some general safety tips for travelling in Costa Rica are as follows -Costa Rica Traveling Safety Tips

1. Don't be flashy, in terms of jewelry and money. You really don't need to wear that big diamond ring to visit the eco forest or go ziplining and don't take all your cash with you everywhere you go. Hotels provide safety deposit boxes for such purposes.

2. Keep track of your camera and video equipment, and above all do not leave such items exposed in your rental car or overnight.

3. Stay alert, don't get intoxicated, which may lead to lack of reactions and knowing where you are. Being drunk can lead to heated discussions, raised voices and arguments.

4. Don't go off the beaten path especially at night - organized tours are readily available and can accommodate the off the beaten path experience.

5. Watch for creatures when you visit their home - Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity which means that there are many different critters running about. Before you embark on that hike through the unspoils of the country, ask someone what lurks ahead for safety and securing. After all you are in the rainforest.

Enjoy yourself in this wonderful nation of the "Pura Vida", but always take care so that your Costa Rica vacation leaves you with wonderful memories of the positive experiences to be had.
