Ayr is a fantastic shopping destination for Christmas with a choice of retail outlets to compare with any city centre and the added touches of historic landmarks.
For major shopping stores, Ayr Central boasts many big names under one roof including Debenhams,HMV and Next to name but a few. It consists of three distinct shopping districts, Luath Walk, Skye Square and Taran Walk each with their own unique shops .
Within area there are toilets facilities and baby changing rooms. There is an underground car park with spaces for 500 cars with lifts available to get to the shopping area.
Other Ayr town shopping centres include The Kyle Centre.. It is situated in the middle of the town with various entrances allowing easy access. At the Kyle Centre they have a wide selection of shops ranging from Top Shop to River Island and many more. The centre is open 364 days a year apart from Christmas day.
The Arran Mall is situated off Alloway Street winding around the side and rear of Hourstons Department store. There is a nice selection of gift shops, furniture shops, including Reids furniture store and cafes. There is ample car parking facilities in Dalblair car park..
The Kyle Centre and the Arran Mall will have extended opening hours on Thursday and Sunday starting on 11th of November to 23rd of December 2102.
From 2nd December to 30th December, Ayr will have it's own town centre ice rink. Situated in Wellington Square,the Christmas Wonderland event will have up to 25 stalls selling various Christmas goods.
Stalls will be open 2pm 9pm Mon.-Fri.11am-9pm Sat/Sun. Skating takes place from 11am-9pm.There will be live entertainment on Thursday evenings.
Throughout Ayrshire there are a number of thriving independent retailers seling food and drink, art and crafts, jewellery, gifts, clothing and so much more. As well as the busy Ayr town centre, the smaller towns of Prestwick, troon, Maybole and Girvan all have a lot to offer.
On Sunday 21st of November 2010 Christmas can witness the switching on of the Christmas lights. This will be the climax of a fantastic afternoon of entertainment.
The Festivities will start at 4.00pm and culminates in a performance by the 7th-placed X-Factor finalist, who will only have left the show the previous week. Floorstompers, one of Scotland's most entertaining bands will also perform. Jim Prime of Deacon Blue's will be on keyboards. Also performing will be Ayr's own Nicola Casells and Little Fire. She has been described as being Scotland's answer to Katherine Jenkins. Little Fire aka Jamie McGeechan s a 24 year old singer songwriter from Ayr. He has recently supported X Factor's Jamie Afro.
Madnish which are a Madness tribute band will perform all Madness hits.
West FM's Jen McGinley will host the afternoon's entertainment. The event will take place on stage opposite the Tam O'Shanter Inn.
