Business blogs – Don't Make These 5 Common Mistakes

A business blog, if done well, can be a huge asset to your online marketing efforts

. It can act as the central point to which all your other social media channels will point. The format of blogs make them clean and easy to read which means they get ranked quickly and well by search engines. They are also a great way to communicate with prospective or existing customers and display your authority within your given field.

These advantages have led to almost every company that is serious about their online presence starting a business blog of some sort. Setting up a blog couldn't be easier. Once it is set up, publishing content can literally be done with a single click. Whilst this means that your business blog can be kept up to date relatively easy, it does mean that a lot of companies get lazy with their content and quality control. Your business blog will often be the entry point for new customers so it needs to present your company in the best possible light. A lot of companies are let down due to five very common mistakes.

1. Boring content: If your content is boring people won't want to read it for very long. Even if the subject you are writing on isn't the most interesting in the world, try to make it interesting or approach it from an interesting angle.

2. Lazy editing: The urge to hit publish' can obviously be too tempting for a lot of companies. If you publish content which has poor grammar or spelling mistakes in it then no prospective customer is going to take you seriously, no matter what your content is about. Take the time to properly proofread and edit EVERYTHING you publish.

3. Repetitive content: Once the initial influx of ideas and enthusiasm wears off, business blogs have a habit of getting very repetitive. Even if your niche is fairly narrow, there is always a way of keeping blogs interesting.

4. Inconsistency: A business blog needs to maintain a consistent voice. If the written style is inconsistent then visitors won't know where they stand. Keep it consistent and in line with your brand.

5. Content volume: For a Blog to work it needs to be updated regularly. Once a week just isn't enough. When you start your blog, make sure you can maintain the quantity and quality of content you need to make it work.

If you can avoid all of these unbelievably common mistakes then your blog will allow you to stand out amongst your competitors and reap the full benefits that a business blog has to offer.
