Brits average around 120 holidays per lifetime
Airport Meet and Greet parking specialists Stress Free Parking have just learned that travel-hungry Brits enjoy an average of 120 holidays during their lifetime according to a recent study conducted by Teletext Holidays.
Brits have always loved travel, as far back as the history books go. This is something that's often attributed to the fact that we're a small island nation, traditionally reliant overseas travel to learn, grow and do business.
And even in the 21st century, we're still intent on seeking pastures new it seems, as according to a recent piece of research conducted by Teletext Holidays, we spend an average of 168,000 per lifetime on getting away from it all and clocking up more than 120 trips away.
We spend an average of 2,750 a year
The survey of 3,000 people found that we begin taking holidays in earnest around the age of 18 when we're likely to start with weekend city breaks to local' destinations such as Newquay, London, Blackpool and Brighton.
From here we tend to spread our wings a little, taking in destinations further afield such as the Balearics or Amsterdam, spending an average of 2,750 a year on getaways with friends and family.
Gap year students go down under
The poll found that our age and situation had a great effect on where and how we choose to spend our holidays. Gap year students favoured Australia, as did over 50s travellers, whereas Florida was a more popular choice for families with their young, or teenage children.
For honeymoon couples, The Maldives was a clear choice thanks to its beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
Holidays used to mark milestones in people's lives
When asked about the results of the study, Teletext Holidays Managing Director Victoria Sanders said:
"Holidays are increasingly being used to mark important milestones in people's lives."
"There are more people travelling for stag and hen weekends, to get married overseas or celebrate 'big zero' birthdays than ever before. An ageing population means that we are travelling for longer and we can fit much more of the world into a lifetime than ever before."
