British Airways Woes:- Christmas Goes On Strike

As one of the world most popular airlines, British Airways is responsible for taking passengers all around the world all year round

. The airline flies to most major airports around the world and have built up a high reputation for being reliable, honest and value for money. However due to the recent decision to cut 1,700 jobs and freeze pay for current staff, there is a high possibility that we will see a strike by British Airways staff. The Unite Union will announce the result of their strike ballot on the 14th December, if workers have decided to go ahead with the strike, Christmas holidaymakers will see their plans thrown into chaos.

If there is a strike, the earliest day for it to begin is the 21st December. Anyone travelling during this period could face the prospect of a ruined holiday, as nearly 14,000 cabin crew will walk out for a minimum four day period. Derek Simpson, the union's joint general secretary has stated that 'British Airways managements determination to impose unacceptable contractual changes on cabin crew leaves us no alternative' the union has spoke out about there intention to fully support their members if they vote for industrial action.

If the strike does go ahead, many people's plans for a Christmas break will be cancelled, with so many people spending Christmas abroad over the past few years, it is a dangerous time to risk a strike.

British Airways are known for their high quality customer service and a strike could be detrimental to their reputation, whether or not they recover from the proposed strike depends on the strength of customer loyalty. It is safe to say that many are more than happy with the service that British Airways have provided for them so far. Instead of resorting to brash campaigns and hiding the hidden costs of flights, the airline has an upfront attitude with customers. They aim to provide the best value flights that they possibly can without hiding any extra costs, this seems to be a breath of fresh air to some customers that are exasperated with the '99p' flight adverts that are anything but!
