During breast augmentation surgery, the surgeon creates an incision around the nipple, along the crease of the breast, in the armpit, or in the belly button. Once the incisions are made, the implant is inserted through it and placed under or beneath the chest muscle. The incisions will then be sutured closed and the patient can go home to rest and recover.

Before patients undergo breast augmentation surgery, they should work with their surgeons to choose the size, shape, projection, of their implant, as well as the implants filler type (silicone or saline).
