Brake Repair: Careful Price Shopping

Brake Repair: Careful Price Shopping

As a budget-minded car owner, it's only natural to be cautious about where you take your vehicle in for brake repair

. Some shops specialize in bringing customers affordable maintenance work, while others concentrate more on the quality of the service and charge a price commensurate with that higher level of work. Of course, the best shops try to find a good balance between fair pricing and excellent work. If you can find a mechanic or car shop that finds a good balance, you'll never want to take your car anywhere else.

High Prices

There are three kinds of shops that charge high prices for brake repair and other maintenance. The first kind is the shop that gets most of their work from insurance companies and isn't worried about customers fleeing due to price. The second is the shop that is simply scamming their customers. They know the majority of their customers will never look for a second opinion and will simply assume this is what it costs. These shops can stay in business a surprisingly long time, considering their practices. The final kind simply takes pride in going the extra mile and wants to use only the best parts and technicians.

Fair Pricing

The majority of shops fall into this category. They pass on parts with a very minimal amount of markup, they pay their workers a set charge for labor, and they explain every detail of the bill to a customer when they present it to them. While there may be more inexpensive solutions out there, the owner of a brake repair shop that charges fair prices never has to worry about a customer flying off the handle due to a scam or a price that doesn't jibe with reality.

Cheap Pricing

Then there are the shops that will take any shortcut necessary to get the customer the lowest prices possible. These shops are often successful for a couple of reasons. One, many car owners will shop on price and nothing more. Two, those same owners will likely be back before long, paying for the same job again and again. They use low quality parts and mechanics who are just out of training school. While you can take a chance with these shops when it comes to some things, you don't want to risk getting brake repair at the cheapest shop in town. There is too much at stake to take a chance. Find one of the shops excelling in fair pricing and you'll be much more satisfied in the long run.
