Bet On Breeders Cup 2009: A Preview

In a far cry from the dream trip she had at American Oaks

, there was still good news for Gozzip Girl and trainer Joseph Albertrani. Neither the trainer or the horse show any ill effects from their run of the Garden City at Belmont. While the soft ground was probably not to the liking of Miss World, she was able to pull out a victory and clinch a third race in as many weeks. Christophe Clement certainly had his day, but one would have to say that Gozzip Girl will live to fight another day. While it's still unclear who had the worst run here, Gozzip Girl or Da Re Mi, trainer Joseph Albertrani obviously has work to do before anyone can be confident enough in his horse to place a bet on Breeders Cup 2009. Albertrani dad to quickly switche his focus from winning the race to just making it out of the race.

For the first time ever, Santa anita will host the Breeders Cup World Championships again to make it the second time in two years. The two days of horse racing will feature 14 races that will take place over a two day period. The total purse combines for over $25 million. Unlike previous years, there are a few changes, including the Breeders' Cup Pick Six on both days, and the marathon moving to Friday with an increased distance of 1 3/4 miles. That same Friday there will be six races including the five distaff divisions, and a feature grade 1 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic worth $2 million. On Saturday, there will be eight races, including the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic flagship race with a length of one mile and a quarter. The pre-entries to the Breeders' Cup classic are scheduled to be released on October 29.

The new format has brought with it an excitement which has not been seen since the inception of the race in 1984. President and chairman of the Breeders' Cup, Bill Farish, announced earlier in October how excited he was about the event as well as the possible partnership of the 2010 Breeders Cup with Churchill Downs and the New York Racing Association.

There also happens to be great excitement with the presence of the Belmont stakes winner Summer Bird, who came out of the pack earlier this year as one of the best three-year olds. However, there is no shortage of competition as recent runner-up in the Woodward Stakes, Macho Again, should also be present in the field. Summer Bird's accomplishments should not go unnoticed. In June, he won the Triple Crown at the Belmont stakes at Belmont Park. Then, he nearly upset Rachel Alexandra in the Haskell Invitational stakes at Monmouth Park. The biggest prize of his career came in late August when he claimed the one million dollar Travers Stakes at Saratoga. Perhaps the best is yet to come for this late developing three-year-old. Surely, he is a favorite of sharps looking to bet on Breeders Cup 2009
