Several lotions and creams are available in the market for treatment of this condition, which resembles acne or eczema. Chief among these are Tretinoin, a Vitamin A acid preparation sold as REtin-A and Aristocort, which is a cortico-steroid. A third, popular preparation is a combination of Adapalene and benzoyl peroxide.However, home remedies for this condition are equally efficacious and less expensive, as a trial would readily prove. If cream is replaced with curd or yogurt it would work equally well, the reason being, that the lactic acid present in these milk products, acts as a natural exfoliant, removing the dead cells from the skin's surface, thus preventing inflammation and irritation and giving the skin a smooth texture.This treatment is to be carried out 15-20 minutes before a shower and the skin should be gently patted dry. Thereafter, Vitamin E oil or cocoanut oil should be applied, again very gently, over the area to soothe the skin.A good amount of omega 3 or 6 fatty acids in the diet, will help to keep the skin soft and prevent recurrence. The best source of this is fish like salmon, mackerel, and also nuts, like walnut etc.
