Baseball For Kids

Baseball For Kids

Kids just love to play baseball. When you watch them swinging a bat in the park you can see how much they enjoy it. Its a lot of fun for them to meet up with friends and play outside.

The benefits of baseball for kids are immense and they last a lifetime. The first thing that kids learn through playing baseball is to be sociable. It starts in the neighbourhood they live in. Each kid is different from the other, they come from a different background and they might go to different schools. Playing baseball together can break down barriers and unite the kids. Through this the kids learn to give and take and to respect each others boundaries. Friendships between kids which would normally not have any reason to talk to each other develop and these bonds made at this early age often last a lifetime.

When kids join a baseball team (or any other team for that matter) leadership skills, communication skills and discipline become valuable traits that they will benefit from for the rest of their lives. These skills will help them on their journey through school, the work place and even their family lives.

By playing baseball, kids are occupied. Once occupied, there is no risk of them turning into couch potatoes. They are active which is good for their growth and overall health. Baseball, being the game that it is, calls for a high level of fitness and this will encourage the kid to take good care of his/her body. As a result the child will be healthier and develop healthy habits early.

Another benefit that kids derive from baseball is confidence. Baseball being the fast paced and demanding game that it is requires fast thinking and coordination. When the chips are down one needs to learn how to take charge and come out on top. In doing so, the child will learn confidence. As the child grows, the levels of confidence will also increase and this will help him or her in all aspects of his life.

Playing baseball allows a child to learn the importance of team work. You cant play baseball on your own, its a team sport and has to be played with a number of other people. Kids will also learn that, in order to win the game, each team member needs to play his or her part and cooperate with one another. If they dont there is no chance theyll win the game. There is also no room for selfishness once youre part of the team. These are all very important lessons for life and baseball will teach a child the value of his position (and every other one) within the team.

Another important lesson taught by the game of baseball is that sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. Its also important to learn that whether one wins or loses, it should be graciously. When your childs team wins they will be happy and feel on top of the world but they should know how important it is to be a good winner and how one should never be a sore loser. Baseball is an ideal tool with which to learn these lessons. They will also learn that winning comes with hard work, team play and practice.

However for kids to learn from the game of baseball they need help from adults and their guidance too. Kids try to emulate their role models. Because of this adults need to set a good example. Adults should show children that you win by playing the game and not in any other way. Adults should not try live vicariously through them, but allow them to grow and develop on their own and, most important of all, enjoy themselves. Sometimes parents put too much pressure on children to compete and excel, with disastrous results. So instead of focusing entirely on scores and results, parents should instead focus more on the long-term benefits which playing baseball can provide.

This not only leads to confidence it improves their self image. When playing baseball, there are even times when a youngster will have to sit it out on the bench. At that time they need all the encouragement and support they can get to feel that maybe there will be a chance next time. They should learn that sitting it out for a day is not the end of the world and that, in life, we all have to sit on the bench from time to time.

At the same time parents should raise the bar gradually for the kids so that there is a sense of achievement and the knowledge that they are capable of doing it all on their own. Setting a mark way too high for them will dampen their spirits, but setting attainable goals and incentives can be great motivators.

There is no pressure to be a part of a group that plays for fun. As time goes on their levels of fun will be higher with the anticipation of playing with teams and making new friends. The best part of a game of baseball is the fun that a kid gets. Being part of the team gives them a sense of belonging and this will mean a lot to them when they feel that they have each other for support.

The talented little league player will have an ambition to be a part of the school team and maybe once that level is reached expectations may be raised. It is good for a kid to have a goal and work towards it. The child will learn that he or she needs discipline, good body conditioning, training and a healthy diet.
