Tips For A Successful Florida Divorce With Kids

Tips For A Successful Florida Divorce With Kids

Divorce is tough on everyone, but it can be especially hard for children who need to feel secure as they are growing up

. Fortunately, if you and your spouse are committed to making the divorce as easy as possible on your children, the process can go smoothly, and your kids can get through the divorce with the minimum of emotional upset.

To make sure that you make your Florida divorce as easy as possible on the kids, here are a few things to consider:

1. Never fight in front of your kids

This should be rule number one for any divorcing parents. If you have to fight with your spouse, do it when your children are not around. This is especially true if you are fighting over custody, since you do not want your children to be put in the middle.

2. Make a commitment to choose a Florida no fault divorce

A Florida no fault divorce is a divorce in which you dont blame your spouse and your spouse doesnt blame you. Traditionally fault was required for divorce (for example, someone had to commit adultery or do something wrong to end the marriage). This is no longer the case, and a no-fault divorce is a much simpler and faster process.

3. Work with your spouse to create a divorce agreement outside of litigation

If you and your spouse can agree on how to divide up your assets and possessions, as well as on issues of custody and other relevant matters, then you can present your finished agreement to the court during a quick and simple divorce proceeding. Your divorce will cost a lot less than if you each have to present a case in court and it will also involve more cooperation and less fighting. This is great for your kids to see that you and your spouse can still work together and get along, and it also sets the state for future cooperative co-parenting.

4. Establish your custody agreement outside of court

Even if you cant agree on everything (although you should certainly try to!), you always want to work to come up with a custody and parenting plan without involving a court or a judge. In fact, this is so important that you if you really cant do it on your own, you should consult with a mediator to help you out.

5. Allow your kids access to both parents

This is true both during the divorce process as well as after the divorce. Your children need to know that they arent losing a parent just because the marriage is ending. In fact, you should be very clear with your kids about how and when they will get to see each parent, and be sure to let them know that they will continue to have full family support after the divorce is over.

If you follow these five tips for a successful Florida divorce, you can help to make sure that your kids come away from the process with the minimum of divorce-related stress.
