Axillary Hyperhidrosis Treatment Guide

Axillary hyperhidrosis refers to overactive armpit sweating

. This is considered a cause of embarrassment among many adults because of the increased perspiration and odor. However, it does not need to cause social withdrawal. There are many options for axillary hyperhidrosis treatment.

There are many causes that result in excessive sweating, including metabolic, neurological, emotions, and heat. However, it is known to occur in individuals who are healthy. The exact cause of this medical condition is not fully known, however, medical scientists are working on various treatments.

Most drug stores and supermarkets sell antiperspirants over the counter. These contain aluminum chloride which inhibits sweat ducts from functioning. Antiperspirants over the counter should always be the first treatment option because of instant availability. If they do not work, there are prescription antiperspirants. They are made from aluminum chloride hexahydrate, which is a stronger version than store bought ones.

Some medical professionals prescribe oral medications for treatment. Medications such as glycopyrrolate (generic Robinul), prevents sweating. However, like most oral medications, there are negative side effects. This medication is often only recommended for individuals who have severe cases of hyperhidrosis.

There are other treatments as well that can be used. Some individuals opt for Botox injections. Botulism toxin injections into the armpit prevent the sweat glands from functioning properly. This method has recently gained approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration. Surgery is possible, but it is often risky and considered a last result. Surgeons eliminate a portion of the nerves that are responsible for creating sweat. This procedure is called thoracic sympathectomy. However, it is high risk because the patient can develop lung and heart problems.

Axillary hyperhidrosis does not just have physical consequences, but psychological ones as well. Individuals with this condition often have anxiety, stress, and depression. With many solutions to this type of condition, it enables people to live normal lives. I personally used a sweating home remedy by following an online guide that worked for me, and you can find out more about it at my website link below.
