Auto Pet Barriers And 3 Steps To Traveling With Your Dog

Auto Pet Barriers And 3 Steps To Traveling With Your Dog

Several problems often occur with your dog while traveling in the car

. These problems are mostly the result of stress and anxiety, especially if your dog is scared or is not used to being inside a car while the engine is running. While it can be helped with a pet barrier for your car, here are some exercises you can do to help your pet relax.

Car travel with your pet may also be a problem if you have a high strung dog who can't sit still for a long period of time or if he associates any kind of negative experiences while traveling in the car.

If you've had any kind of problem with this, the following suggestions can go a long way towards putting him at ease. Practice these exercises at least a week before heading on your next long trip and see the difference.

1. First, with the engine off and the car in the driveway, open the back door and let your dog in. The idea here, is to leave him in the car for a bit with some snacks, a favorite toy, make it a positive experience so he starts to get used to being comfortable in the back of the car. On a hot day, make sure not to leave him in the car for too long!

2. Once your dog is comfortable being in the backseat of the car, close the door (with the windows rolled down) and get inside the drivers seat. Stay there for about a minute while your dog is getting used to the door being closed.

3. Now, head out for a short drive. Just around the block a few times, nothing too long. Leave him his toys to chew on in the back, and then when you're done let him out and reward him with a walk or a chance to play fetch or whatever else his favorite game is.

Repeat the same process, increasing the distance of the trip, until your dog gets to the point where he actually looks forward to riding in the car. From now you you will then be able to drive long distances and through high noise areas without disturbing our upsetting your companion.

One last thing, it's a really good idea to keep your dog in the back seat, but a lot of times even if they're comfortable and happy it can be a trick keeping them back there. You can either use more training time to get them to stay, or you can get a pet barrier for your vehicle. There's a lot of good products on the market, to see one of the easiest ones to install check out the ez pet barrier at ezpetbarrier.com and watch the video and see if it can help you.
