Australia; 6 Visas, 1 Choice And Millions Of Reasons Why

A move to Australia is a hope that lingers in the mind of many people in the UK

. For some people, it stays as nothing more than a dream. Others, however, make this thought a reality, packing up their bags and moving to the other side of the world.

Whilst the whole process of a move to Australia might be a daunting one, no matter how exciting it seems, before you even think about packing your suitcase, you have one decision that you have to make first.

Australia offers potential immigrants an array of different visas. However, they can all be summed up in an umbrella phrase and included in 1 of 6 different categories - Working Holiday, Travel, Family, Spouse, Skilled Worker or Business.

And the very first choice you have to make regarding your move to Australia? Deciding on which one is most suited to you. Australia; 6 Visas, 1 Choice And Millions Of Reasons Why

Before you begin going through the available visas, it's worthwhile keeping mind that phrase - 'which one is most suited to you'. This is because although you may find a visa that you think would make your move to Australia as easy as possible - take the Spouse visa as example - it may not be the one that is best suited to your move, for the fact there aren't as many visas issued under this category than, for instance, the Skilled Worker visa and as the competition is high, the chance of your receiving this type of visa is lowered.

To begin with, the first two options mentioned - Working Holiday and Travel - are both visas that offer temporary or short-term residence in Australia. Easy to understand, a Travel visa is one which allows you to travel to Australia but carry out no form of work or study, whilst the Working Holiday option gives you the opportunity to both work and study in Australia for a period of up to two years.

Moving to the Family and Spouse visas, you can apply for either of these if you have a close relative (usually a parent, grandparent, brother or sister) or wedded partner already living in Australia on a permanent basis.

With both Family and Spouse visas, there is a stipulation for the relative or partner that they must support the immigrant for up to two years in any way that they should require it.

Looking at the last two options, Skilled Worker and Business visas, as their names suggest, both revolve around working and being able to input financially into the Australian economy.

For the Skilled Worker visas, it's generally expected that you should either have employment arranged before you apply for your visa or you should have the necessary experience and qualifications to fulfil one of the jobs on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

In respect of Business visas, they are actually relatively vague - in comparison to the other visas - in their criteria. Allowing for you to enter Australia and work for yourself, these visas require that you either setup a business in the country or transfer or expand an existing one.

Moving to Australia can be a daunting experience, but as long as you've carried out your research, prepared fully and chosen the most suitable and appropriate visa, your new life Down Under should soon become a reality.
