It is after all the second leading cause of death and one in four of us will die from this disease. Its reach seems relentless and unstoppable and we wonder if we will ever be unfortunate to have it happen to us.

But even if you think it is something that you have no control over but assured that there are things you can do to help protect yourself so you can stop some of the worrying. It is a fact that 90 percent of all cancers are preventable which is really good news and we know that they are closely intertwined with our lifestyle. And this is something that every single one of us has complete control over.

One of the main drivers of cancer is us becoming overweight. Sure, we eat too much food especially foods laden with unhealthy man-made fats and sugars and we do not do enough proper exercise. But although fat stomachs, love handles, big thighs and hips do not look very nice it is the fat inside the body that is the real problem.

Without enough proper exercise that works our muscles to keep our metabolic motor running hot this dangerous fat builds up around our internal organs hindering their functioning and making them deteriorate. Even people who are thin on the outside can have this dangerous fat inside their abdomen.

This fat is particularly hazardous, aggressively changing the hormonal and chemical balance of the body. It is highly metabolically active, spewing out toxic chemicals that can promote and accelerate the growth and division of body cells.

Having high levels of these chemicals in your body from lack of exercise and poor quality food makes it so much easier for cancer to develop and change your life forever.

You cannot see this fat inside but if your waistline is over 38 inches for a man or 35 inches for a woman you are at a very high risk.

The only way to stop this happening to you is a simple two-fold approach. Firstly, a proper strength training exercise program needs to be implemented so your muscles can be rebuilt and re-toned to get them healthy again. This will then get them burning up the excess sugars and fats floating around the blood stream causing mischief and damage.

Ditching as many processed foods from your diet is the second thing that needs to be done. Your exercise program needs to be supported with good nutrition if you are to put some effort into it to make the changes you need to make right down at the base level of your metabolism (your bodies engine).

Only strength training exercise that will directly work the major muscles through their ranges of movement with adequate resistance will do this job so don't think any low intensity, long duration activity will work because it won't. No any time soon...not ever.

Body weight needs to be brought back into a healthy range to lower the levels of circulating cancer-promoting chemicals and hormones to decrease the risk of ever getting cancer. Sure, this all seems like hard work and it will take a little organization to make sure you eat good quality foods cooked from scratch and that not have been mucked around with by man and getting in your 2-3 proper exercise sessions each week.

But will it not be better and easier than getting that dreaded diagnosis that you have cancer which will mean your life is under threat and having to live with the worry and fear that will bring? You decide which is the easier and better of the two options.
