Potty training is one of those things that new parents are worried about because it's all new territory to them. They know that it's something that they'll have to go through with their kids. It's the overall lack of potty training advice that confuses the heck out of most people. Or the conflicting advice that you'll get from dozens of different parents - everyone has their own spin on it.

Until the 1960s most babies were potty training at 18 months but today children are still being potty trained at 3 and 4 years old. This is the last thing you want happening to your toddler because of the absolute shame and embarassment it would cause them in school. You don't want to leave you kids open to teasing and name calling in school do you? These are the types of things that can scar them for life. Getting rid of diapers before age 2 is simply better for you and your child.

Why is that? Are You Delaying Potty Training Your Kids?

Don't forget that at age of 2 most kids will start to assert their independence so you need to establish the potty training habit before the terrible twos start off. If you let your child decide they don't like potty training at age take I can almost guarantee that you'll still be struggling with toilet training when they're 4 years old. Children are physically, emotionally and psychologically ready for this developmental step as young as 12 months so don't hold them back.

It also means that the landfills are overflowing with disposable diapers which is unpleasant to think about but also very bad news for the environment. It's going to take decades if not centuries for these to decompose so why not stop this from happening if you can?

The disposable diaper industry has convinced parents and doctors everywhere that using disposable diapers to encourage potty training later is a good idea. Of course they have - that means that they'll sell millions more disposable diapers to new parents. The only thing that has changed since the 1960s is that these companies have used some very clever marketing. You definitely shouldn't let your child decide when to start potty training - this is down to you as the parent. That's probably the most important potty training tip anyone could give you to be honest.

Just take your time and introduce potty training to your kids slowly and reward every effort they make. And if you're still finding yourself struggling then you can do what most parents do and just get yourself a potty training guide to help you get the potty training process right.
