When you are angry you act aggressively or violently and want to hurt others. You may yell, rant, or plot revenge when you are extremely angry.

Before you are in an intense situation, you should first figure out what your will do and where you are going to go if you need to calm down. You should choose a place that is quiet and relaxing. Also, think of something you can do to make your anger go away, like deep breathing or the like.

You should also be aware of the anger levels you are having during a big quarrel. Observe how your body is changing. If you feel that your heartbeat is becoming faster and faster, you know that your frustration and irritation are increasing. The earlier you are able to discern your feeling, the better you are at managing them.

Once you know that your anger is increasingly intense, you should detach yourself from the situation as soon as possible and try to calm down during the time out.

When you need to leave the heated argument, be sure to say something to others instead of just get up and leave. Be assertive and use the statements with 'I'. Don't say 'You make me so upset that I can't talk to you any more'. Instead you can say 'I have noticed that I am becoming more and more upset. I want to continue to discus this issue with you, but I fear that I cannot control myself. Therefore could you please excuse me, I need a short break. Before you say anything, you have to plan it. Don't just say anything that pops up in your mind as it may make matters worse. Be sure to be clear about how you feel and what you need.

You should try this because it works for many people. You will be able to eliminate negative thoughts and manage your feelings. You can think about the situation from a new angle and plan a reasonable course of action you will take when you return to the situation.
