Andrea Bocelli Tickets - Defeating The Odds, Bocelli Celebrates Christmas
Gearing up for the holiday season, Italy's most seasoned veteran singer Andrea Bocelli released his latest holiday treat My Christmas
. The album is a fusion of Bocelli's holiday favorites from pop, rock, country and R&B artists. The collection is a genre-jumping set as Bocelli fans see the renowned opera singer collaborating for the first time with musicians from a handful of genres - Reba McEntire, Mary J. Blige, the Muppets and Natalie Cole are all guests on his new album, released Nov. 3.Bocelli will also make it a point to perform during the PBS Great Performances series this December as he once again promotes legendary producer and friend David Foster. The tour began Nov. 28 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and will hit up six cities in the States, including Las Vegas, Nev. and Anaheim and San Jose, Calif. The album has the Italian opera singer, who has done duets with Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman and Eros Ramazzotti, sing in English, Italian and German. Though his most accomplished work comes in Italian, he doesn't let language barriers stop him from generating a worldwide audience.
With more than 60 million records sold and a Guinness Book of Records title for holding the top three American classical charts for three years, there is little that Bocelli cannot do. His music isn't something you might find on a typical radio station, but his tunes have paved the way for similarly educated artists to find mainstream success.
Take Charlotte Church and Josh Groban, for example. Equally talented, both stars were able to make a commercial living from classical music, thanks in part to Bocelli. While Groban's Bocelli influence might be a bit more direct (Groban filled in for Bocelli during a rehearsal with Celine Dion several years ago that caught Foster's ears and jumpstarted his career), Bocelli has found a way to take his genre mainstream.
His sight is yet another feat he has conquered, though he never speaks of it. Blinded when he was 12 years old following a football accident, Bocelli has overcome a difficult hurdle and has claimed some of the best music reviews worldwide (even Luciano Pavarotti sang his praises). Instead of misfortunes Bocelli focuses on the success of his music, something he has defined for generations to come. Singing everything from Verdi and Puccini to Mascagni and Massenet, the tenor has found his voice through every obstacle possible.
The Tuscan-born performer first found fame when he performed with Fornaciari in the early '90s during an audition for Miserere. Recording the single and touring with Fornaciari in 1993, Bocelli was eventually able to tour the world with "Night of Proms" along with Al Jarreau, Bryan Ferry and others. That year he started recording his self-titled debut and the subsequent Bocelli, which appeared in the mid-'90s. Bocelli found crossover success with the fourth album Romanza and the single "Time to Say Goodbye," a duet with Brightman, and also with the next album's hit, "The Prayer." The latter, a duet with Celine Dion, earned Bocelli a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
