An Unforgettable Holiday In Extremandura

An Unforgettable Holiday In Extremandura

The region of Extremandura

Who hasnt heard of Merida? Well, the amazing city is the capital of the southwestern region Extremandura, which is one of the most impressive regions in Spain. If you visit Extremandura, you will find a variety of landscapes like nowhere else in the country, full of mountain ranges, as well as colored plains, stone fields and lime fields, a place where your eyes will enjoy very picturesque sceneries. Even though its beauty is impossible to explain in words, Extremandura is one of the poorest regions that Spain has. However, tourists should show more interest in this region, because a holiday here is surely an unforgettable one.

Merida, the capital

The Badajoz province is the one that hosts Merida. The Romans are the ones who founded the city in 25 BC and this is one of the reasons why Merida is the place where you will find an impressive, outstanding collection of monuments built by the Romans. The Roman Theatre, which can host 6,000 spectators, is famous for the stage wall which is colonnaded; the Roman Amphitheatre also deserves your attention.

Visiting Badajoz and Caceres

Badajoz is definitely the largest province of this amazing country. The region might look dull sometimes because of the landscape which only has a few hills, but the climate is great for a holiday with your friends or your family. Since you are here, visit Caceres; Caceres is formed of a labyrinth of narrow and cobbled streets which starts from the Main Square. The city is also famous for the Santa Maria Cathedral, which is built in a Gothic style; many Conquistadors were buried within the walls of this Cathedral, making it of great historical importance. If you want to deeply dig in the history of the city, visit the Caceres Museum, where a collection of Roman objects is waiting to tell you its story; you will also have the chance to see parts of the Arab Cistern which dates back to the 17th century.

Spending time in Extremandura

Summer is not the best time of the year to visit Extremandura, because summers are usually very hot. Spring is the best season to visit this region of Spain, the season when you can enjoy the amazing outdoors of the region: you can hunt, go fishing, or even follow the routes of the Romans or the Moors on the back of a horse. When you visit Extremandura, you understand why it should be on the list of the most visited regions in Spain.
