An American History Tour Done Right

An American History Tour Done Right

My husband and I are real United States history buffs

. But since we're West Coasters, we sometimes find it difficult to truly envision it. That is precisely why we decided to organize a vacation to some of the prime East Coast highlights in early American history.

If you also want to bring the nation's history to life for you and your family, but aren't sure where to start, then let me tell you about the approach we took so we could have the best experience possible.

Naturally, the first thing you should consider is which period of history you are looking to explore which will thereby determine which places you will visit. For example, a look into the pilgrims' earliest days will include visits to Jamestown, Cape Cod, and Plymouth.

On the other hand, if you are more focused on the era of the Revolution and the work of the Founding Fathers, then you should center your trip around crucial areas like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Valley Forge. An American History Tour Done Right

Some visitors prefer to learn more about the Civil War, which was, of course, a major turning point in American history, bringing the states together in the end as never before. A trip to the famed (possibly haunted?) battlefield at Gettysburg must be included in such a tour.

If you are operating on a stringent budget, then you should select places that are fairly close together. Most rental car agencies will allow you to take your borrowed vehicle into neighboring states, but don't do so until you have double-checked with the agency to see if this is permitted.

You may feel daunted by the prospect of trying to find the most important landmarks, so you may want to contact a local travel agencies to inquire about guided tours that will hit the major spots you are interested in. There is an enormous variety of possibilities, including retracing the footsteps of Lewis and Clark and hitting the famous, historic capitols of our country.

Sometimes this is the most economical option, but if you are only focusing on one or two cities or landmarks, it may be best to make your own way and pay for smaller tours of the city or its highlights.

Bear in mind that much of the East Coast grows very hot and humid during the summer months, so the best time to plan your vacation is when autumn is approaching--early September through the end of October are best, in my opinion.

Remember that this vacation is unlike any other, as it is meant to open your eyes to the history of our nation.
